We are proud to report that we have secured funding with Citizenship and Immigration Canada to provide a “Community Cup Program”.   A year-round series of activities and initiatives based around sports and volunteerism as a way towards integration over the next 3 years (minimum).   Starting as early as January and February 2012, you can get ready for some engaging Corporate Challenges, new and unique sports, workshops, networking events, volunteer engagement initiatives, and planning for the 2012 Community Cup event scheduled for June 24th, 2012.  Also, we will be supporting some other Community Cup events around Ontario.  Be sure to register for our newsletter to keep in the loop or to contact us at admin@communitycup.ca to get involved.

It is important to note that the funding we are receiving will not cover costs of the Ottawa Community Cup event; we still need to find and secure sponsorships, volunteer support, and collaborations in the community as in the past.  Your help is greatly appreciated.
We are also proud to announce the recruitment of Laurie Hinsperger, our hard working and dedicated 2011 Community Cup Event Site Manager volunteer as our new Program Assistant.  You can reach her at Laurie@communitycup.ca
Upcoming Event:   Fundraising Activity and Corporate Challenge - Ice Fishing on Feb 20th, 2012 on the Ottawa River!    Only $10 to participate or to sponsor a hole.  Please contact admin@communitycup.ca for more information.

Miguel Sevillano, who was born in Peru and who immigrated to Canada in 2006, put together a very multicultural team ahead of the 2010 Community Cup. It was a squad which would go on to claim the team title. What was notable about the team which Miguel led to victory last year was its diversity. In the following q & a, Miguel talks about his passion for soccer, what it was like to lead his team to victory in the 2010 Community Cup, and the way he feels the Community Cup assists newcomers to Canada to feel more welcomed into their adopted country.

TD has been a major sponsor of the Community Cup as well as a proud supporter of the annual event since its beginning in 2005. This support has not only been financial. Over the past six years, employees with the bank have been integral as volunteers. At the 2010 Community Cup, 27 volunteers from the organization came out to lend a helping hand.

In this Q & A with Cathy Jowsey, Manager, Community Relations with TD, we discuss the connection that has developed between the bank and the Community Cup as well as the positive impact she believes the event has on those who are newcomers to our country and community.
