The TAG Team Project
The TAG Team project is a leadership and volunteerism training initiative. Small volunteer team “matches” consisting of a mentor (retiree/person with experience/expert), a newcomer, and a student will apply to assist with community need projects. A team will choose their own time-limited or project-based challenge that interest them. Contact getinvolved@communitycup.ca for more information or to sign up.
Community Events Infusion
Community Events Infusion is a project that will engage and connect newcomer volunteers to community event and festival planning committees. By playing a contributing role in planning committees with mainstream community events, newcomers will be exposed to significant learning and networking opportunities, especially those looking for “Canadian work experience”. The long term goals include preparing newcomers for job opportunities, increasing diversity at community events, and supporting the events that make our community vibrant.
Corporate/Community Challenges
A VP at a fortune 500 company said that “around 80% of all business deals are made on the golf course”. True or not, it is a fact that many people find work, new professional connections, and build social networks around sports and competition. However, for a newcomer, these opportunities are not always accessible for matters of cost, priority, or not knowing they exist
The Corporate Challenge component of the Community Cup aims to make sport and networking opportunities more accessible and demonstrate how important and easy it can be to get active. Community Cup staff are organizing events and activities year round focusing on friendly competition.
Sign up as a participant or corporate ambassador. You and/or your group will be invited to learn a new sport or activity and compete against one another – for fun. No experience necessary. Expert coaches will offer on hand sessions to learn the rules, strategies, techniques, and etiquette around their sport. Sessions range from 2 hours to 4 hours.
Activities can include: Inter-tube water polo, Underwater hockey, Canoe and Kayak, sailing, Volleyball, Fencing, Badminton, Archery, Jiu-Jitsu, Cricket, Soccer, Aussie Football, Hockey, Fishing and Ice Fishing, Cooking, Squash, Tennis, Ping Pong, Netball, Curling, Foosball, Rock climbing, Running, and more! Make a new suggestion and we could make it happen!
WE CHALLENGE YOU to connect! Challenge@communitycup.ca
Community Cup - Expansion
The Community Cup expansion will support the planning and initiation of Community Cup events in other communities. The Catholic Immigration Centre initiated the first Community Cup event in 2005 and it has grown to include over 2000 participants.
Other communities in Ontario have also identified the need for increased access and effective outreach to their communities. Six communities in Ontario will attempt to build on their ability to integrate and welcome newcomers by implementing the Community Cup model in their community.
Details on other community events coming soon.
